Garrett County Public Schools

Garrett County's public school system is consistently ranked as one of the best in Maryland. Class sizes remain small, with excellent student-teacher ratios. Programs that stress career development and community partnerships are introduced as early as elementary school.

Garrett College

Offering a diverse program of credit and non-credit courses ranging from adventure sports to cybersecurity, Garrett College is an accredited two-year community college located in McHenry, Maryland, overlooking Deep Creek Lake, a four-season resort destination in the heart of scenic Western Maryland. The main campus is approximately 15 miles south of I-68 on U.S. 219. The College also has three outreach centers located in the towns of Accident, Grantsville, and Oakland.

As a living and learning environment, Garrett College is the first community college in Maryland to offer residential living on campus. Garrett’s 900+ students benefit from their supportive relationships with faculty, partnerships with area businesses, and a STEM-savvy curriculum. In keeping with the demands of the global market, its programs promote practical skills and workforce readiness. 

Garrett College has articulation agreements with Frostburg State University, the University of Maryland Global Campus, and West Liberty University for specific programs of study. In addition to the articulation agreements, Garrett College maintains alliance agreements with Franklin University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, the University of Maryland Global Campus, and West Virginia University.

Garrett County Scholarship Program

Investing in youth fortifies our future. And to this beginning, Garrett County offers the Commissioners Scholarship to local high school graduates, placing post-secondary education within geographic and financial reach. The innovative program affords county graduates a Garrett College education, tuition-free, for two years. The first of its kind in the state of Maryland, the Commissioners Scholarship Program is diversifying—and fortifying—our local economy.
