Oakland Martial Arts Academy Celebrates 20 Years With Ribbon Cutting at New Location

Oakland Martial Arts Academy marked a major milestone last Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating 20 years of service and the grand opening of its brand-new facility located in Brodak's Plaza, Oakland. The event was attended by local leaders, community members, and longtime supporters of the Academy.

Connor Norman, Business Development Specialist with Garrett County Government, led the ceremony.

Founded in 2005, Oakland Martial Arts Academy has become a cornerstone of the Garrett County community, offering a range of programs in traditional Tae Kwon Do martial arts, self-defense, and fitness for children and adults of all ages. The Academy prides itself on building not only physical strength and discipline, but also character, confidence, and community spirit.

“This is a big deal for the community and for me,” Norman said during his opening remarks. “As a former student of this very Academy, I can personally attest that the lessons I learned training here have impacted the man I’ve become. I’m so proud to see this business grow to a new location, and I’m honored to present this milestone.”

The new location features expanded training areas, updated equipment, and modern amenities designed to better serve current students and accommodate future growth. Master Dmitry Ostrogorsky remarked on the overwhelming support received from the local community over the past two decades and emphasized its continued commitment to providing high-quality martial arts instruction.

"This school is all about the students,” said Master Dmitry. “If it wasn’t for many dedicated people past and present, this school would literally not exist. We are proud of what our Tae Kwon Do family has achieved and we look forward to seeing new faces in Do Jang soon.”

Nick Sharps, representing the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, also offered words of congratulations and support. “Twenty years in business is a remarkable achievement, and this new facility is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone at Oakland Martial Arts Academy,” Sharps said.

The celebration concluded with a tour of the new facility, demonstrations from students.

Oakland Martial Arts Academy is now enrolling new students and hosting summer camps for children and adults.
