Governor Wes Moore today announced $69.5 million in Fiscal Year 2026 awards to support six state revitalization programs administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).
The investment will support 226 projects statewide, benefiting county and municipal governments, community development organizations, and other local partners. These awards directly advance revitalization efforts in Maryland’s disinvested communities, including several projects in Garrett County:
$200,000 to the Garrett County Arts Council, Inc. for the acquisition of key downtown properties to advance arts-based revitalization, supporting economic growth, education, tourism, and community enrichment.
$75,000 to the Garrett County Community Action Committee, Inc. to continue the Garrett County Façade Improvement Program.
$65,000 to the Garrett County Community Action Committee, Inc. to demolish deteriorated and unsafe properties posing health and safety risks in Oakland.
$60,000 to the Garrett County Community Action Committee, Inc. to foster local entrepreneurship by transforming public space into a small business incubator in Friendsville, supporting vendors and paving the way for future downtown storefront occupancy.
“In order to build a Maryland that is more resilient, more affordable, and more competitive, we have to start at the local level,” said Gov. Moore. “Across Maryland, these investments will fuel local visions, strengthen small businesses, expand housing options, and lay the groundwork for long-term prosperity. This is how we grow an economy that lifts everyone, and this is how we win the decade.”
Funding through the state revitalization programs supports a wide range of activities, including business expansion and retention; façade and streetscape improvements; homeownership and housing rehabilitation incentives; commercial improvement programs; community facilities; mixed-use development; and demolition of blighted properties.
