The Legacy Planning for Your Business series, presented by the Maryland Small Business Development Center (SBDC), is a virtual training series designed to help small business owners begin preparing for their business’s future today. Whether an owner plans to retire, sell their business, or pass it on to the next generation, it is never too early to begin planning for what comes next.
The Legacy Planning for Your Business series begins September 2, 2026, and runs through October 28, 2026. The cost of the eight-session virtual series is $79, with partial sponsorship by Tri County Council of Western Maryland, Inc. Attendees will receive guidance from subject-matter experts on the critical components of business transition and succession planning, helping owners protect their businesses' value and prepare for a successful transition.

This regional initiative is proudly sponsored by the Tri County Council for Western Maryland and supported by the Chambers of Commerce of Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Through these partnerships, the program helps strengthen business succession planning, promote long-term business stability, and support economic vitality throughout Western Maryland.

Participants who complete the virtual Legacy Transition Series may be eligible to apply for up to $500 in Technical Assistance funding, subject to committee review and approval.
Additionally, participants from Maryland’s Western Region who attend all virtual sessions will be invited to an exclusive in-person workshop, which includes lunch and opportunities to network with resource partners and peers.
