The Garrett County Department of Business Development joined the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, local officials, community members, and business representatives on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, to celebrate the grand opening of Sprinkles & Sourdough’s new location in downtown Oakland with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new storefront represents an exciting next step for the locally owned small business and adds another entrepreneurial venture to Oakland’s growing downtown business community.
Owned by Jen and Rob Thomas, Sprinkles & Sourdough has built a loyal customer base with its homemade sourdough breads, baked goods, and sweets. The new downtown location allows the couple to expand their business beyond baked goods, offering a selection of kitchen and baking products along with locally sourced pantry items and products from other area vendors.
“The growth of locally owned businesses like Sprinkles & Sourdough is important to the future of our communities," said Commissioner Paul Edwards. Jen and Rob have built a business that people enjoy and appreciate, and their decision to invest in a downtown storefront is a positive addition to Oakland. We are pleased to see local entrepreneurs taking the next step and creating new opportunities for themselves and our community."
Commissioner Larry Tichnell also highlighted the importance of local entrepreneurship and investment in Garrett County’s communities. “Small businesses are a vital part of our local economy, and Sprinkles & Sourdough is a great example of what can happen when local entrepreneurs turn their ideas into successful businesses,” said Tichnell. “Jen and Rob’s investment in downtown Oakland strengthens the business community and gives residents and visitors another reason to shop local.”
“One of the most rewarding parts of economic development is seeing local entrepreneurs take an idea, build a successful business, and then find opportunities to grow," said Kim Durst, Business Development Manager with the Garrett County Department of Business Development. "Sprinkles & Sourdough’s new storefront is exactly that kind of success story. Their expansion adds another destination to downtown Oakland, supports other local vendors, and demonstrates the kind of entrepreneurial investment we want to encourage throughout Garrett County.”
Garrett County Chamber of Commerce President Nick Sharps led the ceremony. Local officials and community leaders in attendance included Garrett County Commissioners Paul Edwards and Larry Tichnell; Garrett County Manager of Business Development Kim Durst; Oakland Mayor Andrew Sauder; Oakland Town Council member Scott Lohr; Greater Oakland Business Association President Kate Buchanan and Board members Devin Callis and Sabrina Liggett; and Garrett County Arts Council Executive Director Kathy Beachler.
Garrett County Chamber Diplomats Stephanie Filsinger, Julie Mead, Chris Rodeheaver, Kristin Skeweris, Dave Stephens, and Macey Wells assisted with the ribbon-cutting ceremony and presented Jen Thomas with a First Dollar of Profit certificate commemorating the opening of the new storefront.
