Free Estate Planning Lunch and Learn

Planning for the future involves more than managing finances. It also means protecting the assets you have worked hard to build and determining how they will benefit the next generation. Garrett College and First United will host a free estate planning Lunch and Learn on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, offering the public an opportunity to learn about strategies for protecting assets, understanding tax considerations, and preparing for the future.

The seminar will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 805 of the PAC Conference Center at Garrett College. Lunch will be provided, and there is no cost or obligation to attend.

A First United Wealth Management Specialist will discuss several key estate planning topics, including passing farms and family land to the next generation, understanding Maryland’s estate and inheritance taxes, and how federal changes enacted this year may affect families.

Estate planning is relevant to individuals and families at every stage of life, whether they are preparing to transfer property, protect accumulated assets, or establish a plan for their loved ones. For farm families and long-time landowners, these decisions may carry additional significance. Farms and family properties often represent generations of hard work, family history, and a lasting connection to the land.

Thoughtful planning can help families better understand their options for transferring ownership, addressing potential tax implications, and preserving assets for future generations. In Garrett County, where agriculture and rural land are important parts of the local economy and heritage, planning for the future of family farms and property can have benefits that extend beyond individual households.

The Lunch and Learn will provide attendees with an opportunity to explore these considerations and gain a better understanding of the role estate planning can play in protecting their assets and preparing for the future.

Advance registration is required by Tuesday, November 3. To register, contact Janet Kepple at Garrett College at 301-387-3023 or janet.kepple@garrettcollege.edu.
