The Maryland Department of Commerce and the Maryland Department of Agriculture are planning to lead a trade mission to China this November aimed at strengthening economic collaboration and expanding trade opportunities between Maryland and China.
The anchor event will be the China International Import Expo (CIIE) will be held November 5-10, 2025, in Shanghai, with business networking and site tours in surrounding prefectures.
A limited number of companies in the following sectors are being recruited:
- Agriculture/Seafood
- Cleantech
- Logistics
- Life Sciences

Maryland supports delegates in a number of ways:
- The ExportMD grant to help defray 2/3rds of up to $7,500 cost on flights, accommodation, and other international marketing fees (a total value of up to $5,000).
- Maryland China Center, our experienced trade office, in Shanghai helping to set up targeted one-on-one business meetings
- Opportunities to see China business climate outside the trade show
- Opportunities for business networking with the support of partner provinces

CIIE is the world’s first national-level import-themed trade fair, where worldwide exhibitors are drawn by public sector budget that’s earmarked for procurement here. In 2023, CIIE featured representatives from 154 countries, regions, and international organizations; 289 Global Fortune 500 companies, as well as 3,400+ exhibitors and 394,000 professional visitors for an estimated $78.41 billion worth of total deals signed. The total food and agriculture deals at the American Food and Agriculture Pavilion in 2023 was worth $505 million. We plan to have a multi-industry Maryland booth this year.
