The Garrett County Department of Business Development, in partnership with the Garrett County Extension Office, is inviting local farmers and producers to participate in a new initiative designed to connect residents and visitors with fresh, locally grown and produced products.
The departments are creating an interactive Garrett County Roadside Stand Map, a free online resource that will highlight roadside stands throughout the county, making it easier for consumers to find fresh produce, flowers, eggs, honey, baked goods, meats, maple syrup, and other locally made products.
By creating a comprehensive countywide map, the partnership aims to increase visibility for local agricultural businesses, strengthen connections between producers and consumers, and encourage residents and visitors alike to support Garrett County agriculture by purchasing fresh, locally produced products.
"There is a growing interest in buying local and supporting our agricultural community," said Kim Durst, Business Development Manager for Garrett County. "This interactive map will make it easier for residents and visitors to discover roadside stands while helping our local farmers and producers reach new customers."
There is no cost to be included on the map. Roadside stand owners are encouraged to submit the following information:
- Name of the roadside stand or farm
- Physical address or GPS location
- Phone number (if they would like it listed)
- Email address or website (optional)
- Days and hours of operation
- Products offered
- A photo of the roadside stand (optional, but encouraged)
Information should be submitted via email to Melissa Bolyard, Garrett County's Agriculture Business Specialist, at mbolyard@garrettcountymd.gov or by calling the Garrett County Extension Office at 301-334-6960.
The Garrett County Department of Business Development and the Garrett County Extension Office also encourage community members to share this opportunity with local farmers and producers who operate roadside stands.
