Garrett County Business Development is encouraging local businesses and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the upcoming SPARK Conference, a weeklong series of sessions sponsored by the Baltimore Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration focused on practical resources, business growth and opportunities.
Taking place Sept. 28 through Oct. 2, 2026, the conference will feature a different topic each day, giving businesses an opportunity to learn from industry experts and connect with programs and resources that can help them strengthen their businesses and plan for the future.
The conference begins Monday, Sept. 28, with Entrepreneurial Journey, Marketing & Exit Strategy. The session will feature two successful business owners sharing their experiences and lessons learned along their entrepreneurial journeys. Participants will also learn about the importance of planning for a successful business exit. The second portion of the session, “Are You Marketable?”, will provide practical information to help businesses strengthen their market appeal and stand out to potential customers, partners and buyers.
Tuesday, Sept. 29, will focus on Workforce Development & Health Care. Businesses will learn about workforce development services available through Maryland Workforce Development, as well as resources through Maryland Health Connection and MarylandSaves. Understanding the resources available to support employees can be an important part of attracting and retaining a strong workforce.
For local manufacturers, Wednesday, Sept. 30, will offer a session focused specifically on Manufacturing. An expert speaker will provide strategic guidance, practical tips and insights into manufacturing best practices. The session will also include information about financing options available to manufacturers.
Government Contracting Certifications will be the focus on Thursday, Oct. 1. Businesses interested in working with the federal government will learn more about the federal certification process and programs available to certified businesses. The session is also designed to help businesses that already hold federal certifications navigate questions and identify additional opportunities.
The conference wraps up Friday, Oct. 2, with International Trade. Businesses interested in expanding into international markets will learn about strategies for reaching new customers, managing global supply chains and navigating foreign markets. Information about financing options for international business activities will also be provided.
