Garrett County business owners who are thinking about the future of their businesses are encouraged to participate in an upcoming regional workshop focused on business succession, ownership transitions and long-term planning.
Planning Your Business Legacy: Succession, ESOPs, Valuations & More will be held Tuesday, November 10, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Allegany College of Maryland’s Continuing Education Building, Rooms 12–14, located at 12401 Willowbrook Road SE in Cumberland. The workshop is free and open to business owners in Garrett, Allegany and Washington counties.
The workshop will address an important question every business owner should consider: What happens to your business when you are ready for your next chapter?
Whether a business owner is considering succession planning, selling or transferring the business, an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), business valuation, or simply wants to better understand the available options, the workshop will provide an opportunity to explore those considerations before a transition becomes necessary.
“Business succession planning is something that is easy to put off because the owner may not be ready to leave the business,” said Garrett County Business Development Manager Kim Durst. “But planning ahead gives business owners an opportunity to understand their options and make thoughtful decisions about the future of the business they have worked to build.”
For many small businesses, the owner is closely connected to the day-to-day operation and long-term direction of the company. Planning for a future transition can help ensure that the business is positioned to continue operating when ownership or leadership eventually changes.
The event will be followed by lunch and networking at noon.
