Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog. This is the sixth consecutive year GRMC has received this recognition.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
“The entire team at Garrett Regional Medical Center is deserving of this outstanding national recognition in hospital safety,” said Mark Boucot, President and CEO of GRMC and Potomac Valley Hospital. “GRMC’s staff, clinicians, and providers consistently strive to put patient safety first while delivering exceptional care. This achievement is reflective of every single one of our employees.”
Kimberly Gordon, GRMC’s Director of Nursing noted the level of care and attentiveness to patient safety at GRMC.
“Our nursing team is a vital component to ensuring patient safety at GRMC. Our nurses do an exceptional job caring for our patients,” stated Gordon. “We treat every patient like family while keeping patient safety at the forefront of everything we do. Our staff’s dedication is seen daily and has proven to provide excellent patient outcomes.”
GRMC ended the past year with no inpatient catheter associated urinary tract infections, the seventh consecutive year without this type of infection. The hospital has one of the lowest case-mix adjusted readmission rates in the state. GRMC had the highest ranked HCAHPS scores (patient satisfaction) for 2023 among Maryland hospitals.
“Everyone who works at Garrett Regional Medical Center should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication of at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank GRMC, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
