New Site and Pharmacy for Mountain Laurel Medical Center Grantsville Practice

On Tuesday, March 26th, Mountain Laurel Medical Center purchased the Grantsville Outreach Center located at 28 Hershberger Lane, previously owned by Garrett County Community Action and occupied by Garrett County Social Services, the Garrett County Health Department, and other community agencies. Mountain Laurel Medical Center has been searching for a new location to expand their Grantsville practice to meet the growing demand of the community.

Community Action’s CEO, Chris Mullett, expressed his support of the sale and the opportunity to increase healthcare access to the community: “Providing our former Outreach Center for Mountain Laurel’s expansion will strengthen the mission of both Community Action and Mountain Laurel in Grantsville and surrounding communities.”

The new location is less than 0.1 miles from their current practice and will increase Mountain Laurel’s square footage from 2,500 to 7,800 square feet. The additional space will allow them to add additional medical exam rooms and behavioral health therapy rooms. It will also allow for expansion of their care coordination team with additional offices and meeting space.

Mountain Laurel will construct a community pharmacy on the first floor of the building that will be open and accessible to all. CEO Brian Bailey said this will be the first priority of the construction project.

The new Grantsville site is the latest endeavor of Mountain Laurel’s recent expansion efforts. Last year they completed a renovation and expansion project at their Oakland practice that included 5 new Behavioral Health rooms, an Imaging suite, and improved access to the community pharmacy. They also opened a new site located in Bruceton Mills, WV in August 2023 and in January 2024 they opened a community pharmacy in their Westernport practice.

“We are excited about Mountain Laurel’s expansion of services for our patients and the community. –Our pharmacy service expansion provides a greater opportunity for the community for cost-effective and convenient medications,” said CEO Brian Bailey.

The multi-phase renovation project will likely be completed in 2025. Mountain Laurel will be sharing construction updates on their social media for those who wish to follow their progress.

Mountain Laurel Medical Center is a community health center with four locations in Oakland, Grantsville, and Westernport, Maryland, and Bruceton Mills, WV whose mission is to “provide the highest quality primary health care to the Community regardless of ability to pay.”
