A Mountain Fix gift shop will host a grand reopening for the summer season on June 20 in a new location next to Fox’s Pizza and McDonald’s at the intersection of Glendale Road and Route 219.
After opening in December 2020, A Mountain Fix spent more than three years in McHenry, winning Garrett County’s Greatest Gift Shop in 2022-2023.
The owners, Lois and Roland Weeks, relocated to Garrett County to become primary caregivers for Lois’ elderly mom and opened the store soon afterwards when the space became available.
Offering a curated collection of gifts, gourmet eats and treats, apparel, and lake themed décor, the store featured the area’s largest selection of silver jewelry as well as a wide variety of locally-sourced products from both Garrett and Allegany counties.
“Not knowing the care needs for Lois’ mom, we planned on a one-year lease extension that was previously discussed with the building owner,” Weeks said. “Instead, we found that our lease would be terminated in February 2024. With no short-term leases available, this forced the closure of the store after already buying and stocking up for the summer 2024 season. Even after extensive closeout sales and buyouts from other local businesses, we were still left with significant inventory.”
After continuing to search for possible short-term locations, the couple was able to arrange this short-term lease through October 2024.
“We look forward to seeing many familiar faces and customers as well as many new ones visiting Fox’s Pizza Den just across the hall,” the couple said.
A Mountain Fix will continue to offer a large collection of fine sterling silver jewelry, sourced directly from world-class artisans through Lois Weeks’ wholesale business, Silvergirl Sterling.
“Fan favorites are returning such as Flikr alcohol fireplaces, Buddy By The Lake apparel, lake-themed décor and wall art, a wide selection of Christmas ornaments, and local artwork, crafts and gourmet foods (including MJ’s Peppers),” Weeks said.
A room will soon be reserved for the gallery’s popular dough bowl candle classes, held Saturdays and available for private parties. Participants can bring their own food and drink.
A Mountain Fix will be open Thursday through Sunday. The store can be followed on Facebook for the latest schedules and events and to book candle classes.
