Located just outside of Friendsville, the Market on 42 is home to some of Garrett County’s newest unique businesses.
On Tuesday, these businesses had the opportunity to dazzle the community with an evening open house with food, music, and shopping to show what they had to offer.
The businesses located at the Market on 42 currently include Secondhand Citizen, Appalachian Print Studio, Railey Design, Wild Ember Bakery, and OMG Relax, which is about a month away from opening its doors. According to Railey Design Home Design and Luxury Vacation Rental Consultant Micheal Fratz, there will also be Harvest House next spring, which is owned by Mountain Meadow Hemp.
The event was also catered by The Travel Mug, Lottie Dottie, and Wildom Farm’s famous Pork Burgers.
“We are starting now at this stage creating spaces for small and new businesses to set up shop,” said Fratz. “We are thrilled to have all of them here. The Market has a space for a bit more stores, but we are playing that by ear.
The owners, Jessie and Nancy Railey, wanted to create a curated space for businesses in need of a place to set up shop. New businesses looking for an affordable space with lots of exposure near the lake are ideal candidates.
Within the first 20 minutes, the event was full of patrons exploring the sights, sounds, and smells filling the Market, ready to give these up-and-coming shops their business.
“There’s a lot more people here with it just being off work time than we expected,” said Railey Design Assistant Macey Wells. “We are just trying to get the word out. I mean, the building has been here for 40 or 50 years, but we finally got some tenants.”
The event drew a nice crowd within the first half hour and continued throughout its duration.
“It was a wonderful event to introduce The Market on 42,” said Secondhand Citizens owner Shelly Deckman. “The turnout was impressive; we are so blessed by our community here in Garrett County.”
