2025 Power of Possibilities Competition to be Held May 23rd

Garrett College, in collaboration with the Garrett County Department of Business Development, will host the 2025 Power of Possibilities (POP) competition on May 23, 2025, in the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College.

“The Power of Possibilities initiative continues its mission to improve the economic conditions of rural Appalachia by fostering entrepreneurship, supporting small business growth, and encouraging innovation across the tristate region,” said Kimberly Govi, coordinator of professional development at Garrett College. “The event brings together emerging entrepreneurs, seasoned business leaders, and industry experts to inspire collaboration and fuel business success.”

This year’s event will highlight participants from Garrett College’s Pathways to Entrepreneurship program.

“Over the past several months, these aspiring entrepreneurs have developed their business plans and strengthened key skills through a comprehensive curriculum,” said Govi. “During the event, they will showcase their ideas, present their business models, and share their entrepreneurial journeys.”

Garrett County residents are also invited to participate in the Power of Possibilities Business Plan Competition. The event provides an opportunity for individuals to pitch their own business concepts for a chance to win a monetary prize. The prize can be used to kick-start a new business or cover essential business expenses.

To enter, interested individuals must submit a completed business plan by May 14, 2025.

The POP event will also feature inspiring presentations from local and regional entrepreneurs who will share their real-world experiences — including the challenges they’ve overcome and the successes they’ve achieved. Throughout the day, community partners and business experts will provide advice, practical strategies, and insights for those looking to launch, grow, or strengthen their businesses.

“The Power of Possibilities project is more than just a conference — it’s a movement to energize rural entrepreneurship, strengthen our economy, and inspire the next generation of business leaders,” said Govi.

The POP conference is part of a larger, ongoing initiative aimed at developing business collaboration and advancing growth opportunities in Western Maryland and the surrounding region.
