At its public meeting on May 5, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners of Garrett County, Maryland, presented a Milestone Proclamation to Mark Boucot, President and CEO of Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC), recognizing the hospital's 75th anniversary. Also participating in the presentation on behalf of GRMC were Kendra Thayer, Emily Tobin, Marjorie S. Fridkin, M.D., and Thomas G. Johnson, M.D.
Garrett Regional Medical Center first opened its doors on May 15, 1950, thanks to the generous bequest of George W. Loar. Originally named Garrett County Memorial Hospital, the facility began with35 beds and 45 employees. Over the decades, GRMC has grown into a vital healthcare institution now operating a 55-bed facility with over 500 dedicated employees, providing exceptional inpatient and outpatient services to the residents of Garrett County and the surrounding region.
The hospital changed its name to Garrett Regional Medical Center in 2015, becoming clinically affiliated with the West Virginia University Health System. This relationship blossomed into a full partnership in 2022, adding a range of expanded services, including cardiopulmonary, heart and vascular, cancer care, infusion therapy, nephrology, behavioral health, dermatology, and a host of other outpatient services not typically found in a rural hospital.
GRMC’s 75-year legacy of service, compassion, and innovation stands as a testament to its enduring mission to treat every patient like family.
