CannaBarons, LLC Announces New Facility at McHenry Business Park

CannaBarons, LLC, a social equity licensed processor with the Maryland Cannabis Administration, announced today its plans to open a new facility at the McHenry Business Park in Garrett County. The project marks a major economic milestone for the region, bringing a new industry and dozens of skilled jobs to the area.

“This is a big step forward for Garrett County,” said Damean Freas, the founder of CannaBarons, LLC. “We’re proud to be investing here and excited to build something that contributes to the long-term economic health of the community.”

The new facility represents a significant investment in local infrastructure and workforce development. CannaBarons plans to create at least 50 full-time jobs with room to grow. The company is also committed to hiring local labor for the buildout phase of the facility and is actively exploring training partnerships with our regional community colleges to ensure that Garrett County residents are first in line for employment.

“This project means more than just jobs,” said CannaBarons CEO and Partner Scott Wiesenberger. “It’s about expanding opportunity—more career pathways, more spending in our local economy, and a stronger tax base to support schools, infrastructure, and essential services.”

The announcement was made in front of local and state officials, including members of the Garrett County Board of Commissioners.

CannaBarons extended its thanks to several key partners who made the project possible:

  • Commissioners Paul Edwards, Ryan Savage, and Larry Titchnell
  • Former State Senator George Edwards, through whose namesake economic development fund the project received support
  • County Administrator Kevin Null
  • Garrett County Economic Development, led by Steve Kelley and Kim Durst

“This is what collaboration looks like,” said Freas. “Public and private partners coming together with a shared vision to grow Garrett County’s economy.”

CannaBarons expects to begin facility development this fall with completion early 2026. The company looks forward to becoming an active partner in the Garrett County business community.
