Community members, local officials, and quilting enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Scrappy Fun and Machine Repair, Garrett County’s newest destination for fabric, quilting supplies, and sewing machine repair.
Located at 404 Plessinger Lane, Oakland, MD, Scrappy Fun promises to be a creative hub, offering unique quilting treasures, hands-on classes, and group activities for all skill levels.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was hosted by Garrett County Business Development and led by Connor Norman, Business Development Specialist, who praised the shop’s addition to the local business landscape. “Small businesses like Scrappy Fun bring both creativity and community together,” said Norman. “It’s wonderful to see new opportunities for artisans and hobbyists right here in Garrett County.”
Owner Jane Niner expressed her excitement and gratitude to the crowd, saying, “Opening Scrappy Fun has been a dream come true. We wanted to create a space where people can gather, create, and learn. Whether you’re a beginner or a lifelong quilter, there’s something here for you.”
Garrett County Commissioner Larry Tichnell also spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs. “Businesses like Scrappy Fun are the heartbeat of our community,” said Tichnell. “They not only provide valuable services but also foster connection and creativity among our residents.”
Visitors are invited to stop by the new shop to explore its unique selection of fabrics, quilting tools, and supplies, or to sign up for upcoming classes and group events.
