The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Garrett County Department of Business Development, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, November 3, 2025, to celebrate the grand re-opening of Shirer’s Tin Shop’s historic storefront in downtown Oakland, Maryland.
Founded in 1866, Shirer’s Tin Shop has served the Garrett County area for more than a century and a half, blending historic craftsmanship with modern expertise. Next year, the business will proudly celebrate its 160th anniversary, a milestone that reflects its enduring legacy, commitment to quality, and deep roots in the Oakland community.
After months of thoughtful renovation, Shirer’s Tin Shop reopened its doors to unveil a refreshed space that honors its heritage while embracing a new era of service and community connection. Guests at the event enjoyed tours of the updated interior, historical displays, and locally curated refreshments.
Family-owned and operated, Shirer’s Tin Shop provides custom light-gauge metal fabrication, residential HVAC installation and service, ductless heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, plumbing, and sheet-metal work. From fabrication to installation, the team takes pride in delivering personalized solutions that combine time-honored craftsmanship with modern efficiency. The business also offers custom ductwork, chimney flashing, and specialty metalwork, continuing the tradition of precision tin craftsmanship that began in the 19th century.
Known for dependable service, attention to detail, and customer care, Shirer’s Tin Shop remains a cornerstone of Oakland’s Main Street and a proud example of Garrett County’s entrepreneurial spirit. The event was led by Connor Norman, Business Development Specialist and Chair of the Garrett County Diplomats. Local leaders in attendance included Steve Kelley, Garrett County Director of Community Development; Fred Gregg, Oakland Town Councilmember; Kate Buchanan, Greater Oakland Business Association President; Jay Quinn, Garrett County Chamber of Commerce Board Member; and Nick Sharps, Chamber President. Garrett County Diplomats Stephanie Filsinger, Chris Rodeheaver, and Kristin Skeweris also assisted with the ceremonial ribbon cutting.
