GRMC Named to U.S. News & World Report's 2026 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care

Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) was named a 2026 High Performing Hospitals for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report, the highest award a hospital can earn as part of the annual study. Other hospitals in the WVU Medicine Health System receiving the recognition were Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, and WVU Hospitals in Morgantown.

U.S. News evaluated 900 hospitals nationwide that provide labor and delivery services and submitted detailed data for analysis.

The Best Hospitals for Maternity Care ratings are intended to assist expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care providers, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity services that best meet their family’s needs.

“Welcoming a baby is an important and often emotional milestone for parents,” Albert L. Wright Jr., president and CEO of the WVU Health System, said. “We want to make sure that the experience is memorable for each family that trusts our hospitals to care for them during a life-changing time. This recognition from U.S. News & World Report demonstrates that our teams are providing exceptional care to all families in the region.”

U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Maternity Care ratings are based on data from C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, severe unexpected newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, and birthing-friendly practices, among other measures.

“Hospitals designated as a U.S. News Best Hospital for Maternity Care are national leaders. This recognition means they are consistently hitting crucial patient safety benchmarks compared to other hospitals,” Jennifer Winston, Ph.D., health data scientist at U.S. News, said.

“It’s a clear signal to expectant parents about where the highest standards of care are being practiced – when parents see this designation, they can be assured they are choosing a hospital dedicated to exceptional, evidence-based maternity care.”
