Iron Horse Associates Celebrates 25 Years of Growth and Service in Garrett County

During its public meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Board of County Commissioners of Garrett County, Maryland presented a milestone proclamation to Iron Horse Associates, recognizing the company’s 25 years of service and its lasting contributions to the local economy and community.

The proclamation celebrated the company’s origins, growth, and continued commitment quality work. Founded by the Thomas family, Iron Horse Associates began as Iron Horse Logging, specializing in timber harvesting and establishing a strong reputation in the logging industry. Over time, the business expanded its services and evolved into Iron Horse Associates, a name reflecting its broader scope of work and continued growth.

Commissioner Paul Edwards praised the company’s impact and longevity, stating, “Iron Horse Associates represents the kind of hardworking, locally rooted business that helps define Garrett County. For 25 years, the Thomas family has demonstrated dedication, adaptability, and a true commitment to this community, and we are proud to recognize their success.”

As a family-owned and operated business, Iron Horse Associates has grown through years of hands-on experience, strong values, and a commitment to excellence. Today, the company provides a wide array of services, including excavating, site development, and recycling, supporting a diverse range of projects across the region.

Owner Denise Thomas reflected on the company’s journey and the passion that has driven its success. “We didn’t start this business just to make money, we started it because we truly love the work we do,” Thomas said. “That passion has carried us through 25 years, and it continues to motivate our team every single day.”

Over the past decade, Iron Horse Associates has significantly expanded its capabilities, taking on land clearing, site preparation, and right-of-way clearing projects. The company has also contributed to renewable energy development, including wind and solar site work, as well as land restoration and environmental mitigation efforts, such as stabilization, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control.

The company’s steady growth reflects its ability to adapt to changing industry needs while remaining grounded in its founding principles. Through its evolution, Iron Horse Associates has maintained its commitment to quality workmanship, community service, and continued investment in Garrett County’s future.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we are incredibly grateful for the support of our customers, partners, and the community,” Thomas added. “We’re excited to keep building on what we’ve started and look forward to the next 25 years and beyond.”
