The Garrett County Department of Business Development partnered with the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce on October 26 to celebrate the ribbon cutting for KMM Tech, a technology business founded by Tim McVicker that is helping small and midsize businesses explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can improve efficiency, streamline operations, and create opportunities for growth.
KMM Tech offers AI-powered solutions designed to make emerging technologies more accessible and affordable for businesses. Services include marketing and social media content creation, business strategy, and workflow automation, helping companies save time, improve productivity, and compete in an increasingly technology-driven marketplace.
Adding a unique touch to the celebration, KMM Tech’s AI agent, “Stu,” participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The demonstration offered a firsthand look at the type of technology McVicker is bringing to the business community.
Joining the celebration were Commissioner Paul Edwards; Kim Durst, Business Development Manager, and Connor Norman, Business Development Specialist, with Garrett County Government; and James Oberhaus, Regional Local Veterans Employment Representative with the Maryland Department of Labor.
Garrett County Chamber Diplomats Connor Norman, Maggie Robey, Kristin Skeweris, and Lucas Miller also assisted with the ceremony and presented McVicker with a ceremonial First Dollar of Profit to mark the business milestone.
“Technology is becoming an important part of business development across every industry,” said Commissioner Paul Edwards. “Businesses that learn how to use these tools effectively can find new ways to improve operations, reach customers, and position themselves for future growth. It’s encouraging to see entrepreneurs like Tim bringing these opportunities to Garrett County.”
Kim Durst, Garrett County’s Manager of Business Development, emphasized the value of helping local businesses understand and adopt new technologies.
“Small and midsize businesses often have to do more with limited time and resources,” Kim Durst said. “AI can help businesses work more efficiently, strengthen their marketing efforts, and identify new opportunities without necessarily requiring a large investment. Having a local resource like KMM Tech gives businesses another avenue to explore how these tools might support their individual goals.”
The event highlighted the role entrepreneurs and technology-based businesses can play in strengthening Garrett County’s business environment. As AI continues to evolve, access to practical guidance and affordable solutions can help businesses across sectors, from retail and professional services to manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism, identify ways to adapt and remain competitive.
