Garrett County’s Department of Technology and Communications (DoTCom) is partnering with Garrett College and the Maryland Broadband Cooperative to offer a series of community technology courses designed to provide local residents with opportunities to strengthen their technology skills. This hands-on series will help participants develop practical technology skills needed for everyday life, work, and communication.
The courses will be held at Garrett College’s McHenry Campus during three upcoming sessions. Each course will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. over three consecutive evenings.
Upcoming Course Dates:
Series One: Computers Made Simple - October 12, 13, and 14 (pre-registration required by October 6)
Gain confidence using a computer for everyday tasks. Learn how to navigate the desktop, manage files and folders, use common applications, access settings, and understand basic computer functions.
Series Two: Staying Safe Online - October 26, 27, and 28 (pre-registration required by October 20)
Learn how to safely navigate today's online world. Topics include recognizing scams and phishing attempts, creating secure passwords, protecting personal information, and safely using websites, email, and social media.
Series Three: Understanding AI and Avoiding Scams - November 9, 10, and 11 (pre-registration required by November 3)
Explore the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Learn what AI is, how it is being used in everyday life, and how to use popular AI tools responsibly and effectively for work, learning, and personal productivity.
DoTCom's partnership reflects the County’s commitment to supporting opportunities that strengthen the skills of Garrett County residents and contribute to a workforce prepared to meet the needs of today’s businesses and employers.
The courses are FREE to attend. Pre-registration is required.
